ANBI Status
On the 1st of January 2021, the Amsterdam Legal Advice Centre Foundation obtained ANBI (Public Benefit Organisation) status. This brings the following advantages:
- An ANBI does not pay inheritance tax or gift tax on inheritances and gifts that the institution uses for the public good.
- If an ANBI makes donations in the public interest, the institution does not have to pay gift tax.
- Donors to an ANBI may deduct their donations from their income tax or corporation tax.
- Volunteers who work for an ANBI may receive a volunteer allowance under certain conditions. If volunteers do not receive a volunteer allowance, they are in some situations making a donation to an ANBI.

Organisation
Since its inception, Stichting Wetwinkel Amsterdam has operated according to a specific guideline. This guideline stipulates that we provide legal assistance to less affluent individuals who require such assistance. This objective forms the core of our foundation and is enshrined in our articles of association. Our articles of association are an important part of our foundation, as they describe our objectives and how we intend to achieve them. Furthermore, the articles of association specify how we remain financially sound while guaranteeing our independence and impartiality.
Within the limits of our articles of association, the board has a certain amount of leeway. This leeway is reflected in the Internal Regulations. These regulations set out the procedures for consultation hours, how matters should be dealt with, how the evaluation with our legal advisers takes place, how the general meeting is organised and how the committees are organised.
In addition, we have a privacy policy. The nature of our services means that we come into contact with confidential information. We therefore want to specify exactly how we handle that information. We therefore strictly adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Finally, the General Terms and Conditions set out what a person seeking assistance agrees to when they engage our services. For example, they state that the employees of the legal advice centre act on behalf of the legal advice centre. They are therefore not liable for any errors. They also state that the legal advice centre does not charge any fees for its activities.
